Alma Sankalpa is a collaborative project between acclaimed ambient artists WATA and Sensei Shui, creating genre-blending fusion that weaves meditative vocals through landscapes of soulful guitar work and exotic rhythms.
WATA, a classically trained composer and sound healer who has graced stages from Coachella to Art Basel and been featured in Rolling Stone and Billboard, brings her ethereal vocal layering and innovative integration of ancient traditions like Dhrupad song structure and Andalusian rhythms.
Sensei Shui, a multi-instrumentalist and certified sound healer with over 20 years of experience spanning jazz saxophone to didgeridoo, contributes his trance-inducing soundscapes that have captivated audiences from Minnesota to Costa Rica.
Together, they craft music in Houston that transcends typical collaboration—their sound represents a conscious journey toward sonic healing that honors diverse cultural traditions while creating something both familiar and mysteriously transformative. The name itself carries intention: "Alma" meaning soul and "Sankalpa" representing the Sanskrit concept of heartfelt resolve, a philosophy that permeates their authentic expression of the integration of disparate elements into something whole.
